Montana Youth Challenge (MYC)Run by the National Guard, MYC is a tuition-free program for "at-risk" teens who have dropped out of high school or who are not on track to graduate. The Academy seeks to improve life outcomes for its participants. MYC is a 5 month, quasi-military program in Dillon, MT, and is housed on the University of Montana- Western Campus. Cadets develop their social, emotional, and academic skills with the option to work towards a HiSET diploma or return to their home high school to continue the pursuit of a traditional diploma. MYC is a voluntary program and students must be 16-18 years old to apply.

Job CorpsJob Corps is a free, residential, education and job skills program for young adults ages 16-24. Job Corps assists individuals in completing their high school education, training for a meaningful career, and obtaining employment. Participants must meet eligibility requirements including age, low-income status, etc. There are over 130 Job Corps Centers across the US and 70+ career/trade areas to choose from!

HiSEt
The Montana HiSET is a battery of 5 tests (reading, writing, math, social studies, and science) that measures a student's academic skills in comparison with those of a high school graduate. If passed, a Montana High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma is issued and accepted by colleges/universities or employers as an equivalent to a high school diploma.
Requirements:
1.) Age: You must be at least 16 years of age to take the HiSET exam, and you cannot be enrolled in high school. Note: If you are 16, 17, or 18 years of age, there are additional requirements and policies that apply (see below). 16-18-year-old candidates previously enrolled in high school must submit a formal letter of withdrawal which:
- the candidate requests from the most recently attended high school.
- is submitted to the Bozeman HiSET Testing Center prior to testing (or enrolling in the Bozeman Adult Learning Center).
- is an original (not photocopy, email, or fax), typed letter on official school letterhead.
- clearly identifies the candidate by name.
- includes the candidate’s date of birth.
- states the last date of school enrollment.
- is signed by the chief education officer (for example, the principal).
- verifies that the candidate has been advised of in-school and alternative educational options.
Additional Requirements for 16-year-old Candidates:
1. A signed and notarized 16-year-old Waiver Application Form providing school status and notarized permission from the candidate's parent or legal guardian. Submit this form to Bozeman Adult Learning Center.
2. An original letter, on official business letterhead stationery, containing the candidate’s full legal name, from an employer stating that the candidate would be considered for employment or advancement upon completion of the HiSET exam. Submit this letter to Bozeman Adult Learning Center. Do not photocopy, email, or fax this letter.
OR
An original letter on official school letterhead stationery, containing the candidate’s full legal name, from a continuing education training program or college indicating that acceptance of the candidate is based upon successful completion of the HiSET exam. Submit this letter to Bozeman Adult Learning Center. Do not photocopy, email, or fax this letter.
3. A statement from Bozeman Adult Learning Center stating the candidate has successfully completed HSE preparation classes or has attained pre-test scores indicating a likelihood that the candidate will pass the official HSE test. Pre-test scores will be obtained through assessment by the Bozeman Adult Learning Center once the student has enrolled. BALC will submit these pre-scores to the Bozeman HiSET Testing Center to be included with your 16-year-old Waiver Application Form.
2.) Residency: You must be a resident of Montana to take the HiSET exam at a test center in Montana. You will need to provide proof that you live in Montana with a valid driver's license or other proof of residency.
3.) Test Preparation or Instruction: Montana does not require you to prepare for the HiSET exam in an adult education classroom, but it is recommended.
4.) Identification: You must present identification on test day at the HiSET test center. Outdated or expired identification will not be accepted.
Acceptable forms of identification include:
-valid driver's license
-passport
-military ID
-other form of government-issued (national or foreign) identification that shows name, address, date of birth, signature and photograph
5.) Testing Fees May Apply
